"Touch Me" is a house song by Portuguese producer Rui da Silva featuring vocals written and performed by British singer Cassandra Fox.
"Touch Me" is arguably Rui da Silva's most popular song, spending one week at the number-one spot on the UK chart, the first song by a Portuguese musician to do so, lasting a total of 14 weeks on the chart alone and selling over 300,000 copies. The soulful vocal, trance chords, and deep house groove of "Touch Me" earned Rui an award for Best Single in the Muzik Magazine Dance Awards 2001, as well as a nomination for Best Breakthrough Artist at the Dance Star Awards.
"Touch Me" originally contained a sample of the Spandau Ballet song, "Chant No. 1". Because the sample was used without permission Rui Da Silva was sued by record company BMG and had to give share of the song away.
Vocalist Cassandra Fox co-wrote the song (Cass writing the lyrics, Silva writing the backing track) hanging out at Silva's studio after the two met when he saw her performing in the West End. Cassandra, however, felt dance music wasn't what she wanted to do, and shortly after the success of "Touch Me", parted ways with Silva.
In 2011 the song was sampled on Gil Scott-Heron and Jamie xx's "Ur Soul And Mine" from the album We're New Here.
